The purchase of child life insurance can be compared to using a seatbelt for protection against an unforeseen accident. Good parents strap their children into safety seats, knowing that they are doing their best to keep them safe and secure. Although the purchase of child insurance may not be considered a necessity, and there is no guarantee that your child will ever need to have it, several million American households have purchased children’s life insurance policies.

Of course you can still be considered a good parent without purchasing your child life insurance, however, other parents realize that child life insurance serves to help protect their children from experiencing a financial burden later in life.

Great Gift Idea

In fact, the purchase of a child insurance policy is a great gift idea because children’s life insurance provides a financial head start for a child by accumulating cash value. Therefore, if a family member purchases inexpensive child life insurance on a toddler, the matured policy becomes a great vehicle that can be used to pay for college tuition, or perhaps a down payment on a home. Also, when the child is old enough to understand, he or she will have the knowledge that a loved one cared enough to concerned about the future by investing in child insurance; and this child will gain financial protection in the event of an unforeseen need, such as a medical emergency.

In addition, parents will gain peace of mind when they know their child life has children’s life insurance. As parents, we never know what will happen in life, and we feel comfort when we are prepared for the unknowns.

When the Experts don’t have Expertise

Some experts say that child life insurance is not a sound financial move. These experts argue that it is not necessary to purchase children’s life insurance because children are not assets that need protection. In other words, the experts argue that the only family member needing insurance is the financial provider. However, there are many reasons that those arguments are flawed. For example, some health concerns will prevent your child from purchasing insurance when he or she is grown. In the event your child works in a hazardous occupation, engages in dangerous activities, or becomes uninsurable for any medical reason, his or her only option would be to pay for an expensive high-risk policy. In contrast, by purchasing your child insurance, you guarantee that he or she will always have life insurance coverage. Therefore, besides the obvious financial benefits of purchasing a children’s life insurance policy for your child, by choosing to apply the principle of “seat belts,” your children will grow up knowing that your caring concern gave them a financial head start in life.
